An Idyll of the Queen
Holy smokes! It’s darn near the middle of July already. And that means two things around our house.
1. The county fair is just around the corner and the next few weeks will be super hectic with fair prep and the fair itself, and
2. The first day of school is only one month away.
As a writer mom I always kind of dread the end of the school year because I know I’ll lose my quiet days of writing for a few months. It means I have to work my work in around a flurry of activities, appointments, and outdoor fun and hay work. But it does mean the start of horse show season, and I love, love, love that time.
But, then, I have mixed emotions about the kids going back to school, too. On one hand I’m excited so I can reclaim my writing days of peace and quiet to work, but on the other it makes me sad. It means another summer of my kids’ youth has come and gone, and they have moved up one more rung on the school ladder toward graduation. In spite of their (what sometimes feels like constant) bickering and rambunctiousness, they are a lot of fun and I enjoy having them around. Not only do I love watching them grow and experience the farm life, their adventures bring back memories of my youth growing up on the farm messing with all of the animals, my horse and I taking up residence beneath a mulberry tree to enjoy the fruits of summer, and selecting a good book and finding a cool spot on the porch swing to read. I know, I’m an emotional sap. What can I say?! Must be why I write romance novels. The heart of a good romance is, after all, emotion!
The other day I lamented on Facebook about whatever happened to the lazy days
of summer. Well, the consensus was basically, Silly Rabbit, the lazy days of summer are for kids! Boy, if that isn’t the truth. There are no lazy days for parents of two very active 4-H kids, owners of eight horses, and who put up hay each summer to feed those hungry horses ! Our son also added beef to his list of 4-H projects and is showing a bucket calf. That will mean even more time spent at the fairgrounds this year, but he is having a blast, and loving every minute of it. Priceless.
For the first time my daughter and I did a sewing workshop where she got to make a four patch pillow and a table runner she’ll enter in the fair. We had a super enjoyable day working and spending time together, and we both can’t wait to do it again. It truly was a special mommy-daughter day. One that I will always cherish . And I hope she will, too.
In honor of our summer, and to prove I’m not blowing smoke, I thought I’d share a few pictures to prove that I REALLY have been busy, and this is why I’m not getting the pages written I need to.
Yes, my characters, Vin and Dorie have been growling at me to finish their story, but for now they are just going to have to remain patient and wait a few more weeks. Once the fair is over and that school bell rings, look out. My computer keyboard will be on fire and Vin and Dorie will be zooming toward the finish line of COWBOY AFFAIR! Then it’s on to one final edit of ELF TROUBLE, and then on to the next project. And believe me, my writing project list is long, and long overdue!
So, what all have you been up to this summer? Traveling? Diving into those home
improvement projects you’ve been putting off? Working your way through your mountain high to-be-read pile? Dining with celebrities and hob-knobbing with the Royal Family? Irrigating and gardening? Or slaving away at the daily grind? Whatever you have been up to, I hope you are finding some time to relax and enjoy the beauty of summer–even if it is at midnight!
See you all back here in August!
I was asked to come back as a guest. I do miss my time here on Authors by Moonlight and all the great authors here. But my time has been stretched pretty thin between working fulltime and trying to get my latest book finished. I’m thrilled to announce that the latest is not only finished but is soon to be released…one week from today! Check out the Blurb and excerpt below and see how you can get your own autographed paperback copy of Viper delivered to your door.
Viper is my first full-length paranormal romance novel. I started writing vampires years ago, back in the day when I was told vampires are no longer selling. So, I changed my idea with Deadly Obsession and turned it into a romantic suspense…where vampyres were people and not paranormal beings. The Hour Before Dawn delved more into the underground culture that is still alive in our culture today. With my latest I returned to my roots, and my love of the paranormal vampires, with a bit of a twist. Viper is the first book in the Sons of Sangue series. Hawk and Gypsy soon to follow. Love vampires? Love bikers? How about Vampire Bikers? Viper and Hawk are twin brothers and descendants of the original vampire Vlad Tepes. They head the outlaw motorcycle club Sons of Sangue, and protect their little town of Pleasant, OR, making sure the OMC rules put in place to keep their secret and protect their own are followed. Breaking them is not an option. I hope you find my latest intriguing and will check out my latest work.
