Celebrating our 38th year in business, we are the oldest, largest, and most environmentally responsible adventure travel expedition operator in Baja California, Mexico. Tim Means founded Baja Expeditions in 1974 and remains the sole owner, a fact that helped cement Baja Expeditions’ 38 year-old reputation as the most trusted conservation expedition operator in Baja California Sur. We work with biologists and naturalists to create the most extraordinary expeditions for our guests. For Baja sea kayaking, whale watching, eco-camping, sailing adventures, or wildlife cruising, we are the world’s leader in eco-adventures to Baja.
Abundant wildlife, pristine natural wonders, and warm, crystal clear waters make the Baja peninsula one of the best ecotourism destinations. We’ve made new, flexible itineraries available for our eco-camps in San Ignacio Lagoon and on Espiritu Santo Island and we are standing by to help you choose trip dates to match your schedule and your desires. Marvel at the wonders of Isla Espritu Santo on a fun and relaxing day trip, discover our grey whale watching eco-camp in Laguna San Ignacio, paddle on a coastal kayaking expedition through the protected islands of the Gulf of California, or participate in ongoing conservation research studies with local wildlife and marine biologists.
The Baja Expeditions staff is composed of naturalists, wildlife biologists, and expert crew, many of whom have been working with Baja Expeditions for over 20 years. Our captains and guides know the waters and islands as their back yard. We support purchasing our meals from sustainable fisheries, not large scale commercial fisheries with a record of extensive by-catch issues. Tim was one of the founding members of Niparajá, a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to conservation of marine and terrestrial habitat throughout the Baja California Peninsula. Many current and past expedition guests wanted to contribute to preserving the pristine ecosystems of the islands and coast. In response to this, Tim began a foundation, Friends of Wild Baja. Funds support proactive conservation strategies, including purchasing conservation easements to maintain lands as open space, developing sustainable fisheries, and environmental monitoring and enforcement.
