Peter Whiteford misses 4-foot birdie putt on 18, so he's in a three-way playoff with Brett Rumford and Marcus Fraser - all 277, -11.
World #7 Louis Oosthuizen birdied last two holes for a 69 to finish eight-under 280 (69-71-71-69) on his Ballantine’s Championship debut. Highlight of his week was a stunning start on Thursday, featuring birdies in his first four holes and a six-under front nine.
Korean star Kim Hyung-sung (pictured) birdies 18 for a 67 to post the clubhouse lead at 281 (-7), a tally matched by Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee after the five-time European Tour winner equals the course record of 65. Hong Soon-sang (67) and Kim Gi-hwan (68) are both six-under.
Brett Rumford cards a six-under 30 for the front nine to lead at 13-under-par as he makes the turn in the penultimate group. A three-time European Tour winner, the Australian has good form at Blackstone, finishing 20th last year and seventh in 2011.
Magnus Carlsson (pictured) records the second hole-in-one at this year’s Ballantine’s Championship, the Swede holing out at the 190-yard par-three third to move to five-under. Tetsuji Hiratsuka of Japan recorded an ace with his last shot on Thursday, at the 13th.
After two weather-affected first days, the third day of Ballantine’s Championship was bathed in sunshine. Photographer James Cheadle captured some stunning late-afternoon images of the action that lit up Blackstone Golf Club. See News section for more photos.
Sweden’s Alex Noren (pictured) birdied 18 for a 69 and moves to nine- under, taking a one-shot lead into the final round over Spanish star Pablo Larrazabal (68) and Scotland’s Peter Whiteford (69). World #7 Louis Oosthuizen is four off the lead after a 71.
It’s crowded at the top - check ‘Leaderboard’! Up to 11 players have shared top spot, with co-leaders spread across the final eight groups. World Number Seven Louis Oosthuizen and playing partners Kang Kyung-nam and 2010 winner Marcus Fraser (pictured) are all in the hunt.
Round 3 started in glorious sunshine at 11.50am. Four Asian Tour members were among the top six after Round 2. Thai stars Arnond ‘Bank’ Vongvanij and Asian Tour No. 1 Kiradech Aphibarnrat tee off in the last group at 1.40pm with Australian Wade Ormsby, all at -7.
Kiradech Aphibarnrat – nicknamed ‘Asia’s John Daly’ – birdied 12, 14 and 18 on Saturday morning to complete a second-round 66 and join Thai compatriot Arnond ‘Bank’ Vongvanij (69) and Australian Wade Ormsby (67) as halfway leaders at seven-under. Kiradech, 23, won the Malaysian Open last month.
